Math Placement Exam

Beginning August 10th, UTS will resume proctoring the paper-based, credit-bearing math placement exam. Registration is now open.

The Math Department will continue to host the online ALEKS Placement Exam so that Exemptions can also be granted through this exam. Exam info and registration can be found on the Math Department's website here. Questions regarding the ALEKS exam should be directed to the math department.

Mathematics Exemption Test

A 26-question test administered during Orientation and at UTS is used to determine placement in mathematics courses. Students who score between 12 and 15 will exempt MATH 1101 (Mathematical Modeling) and may enroll in MATH 1113 (Pre-calculus).

Students who score 16 or higher will exempt MATH 1113 and may begin their University studies with MATH 2200 or MATH 2250 (Differential Calculus). No credit is given for exempted courses, but exemption of MATH 1113 or MATH 1101 may satisfy Core and/or Degree requirements.

Please note: Math Placement may only be taken once.  You must be a UGA student to register for this exam.

Transfer Students with math courses that DID NOT transfer as equivalent to UGA courses are strongly recommended to take the math placement test. No credit is given for exempted courses, but exemption of MATH 1113 or MATH 1101 may satisfy core and/or degree requirements.
