Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Mathematics Exemption Test will not be given during the summer of 2020. Instead, the math department will be allowing the online ALEKS Placement Exam to be taken so that Exemptions will also be granted by this exam. Please visit the Math Department website for more information and to sign up.
Mathematics Exemption Test
A 26-question test administered during Orientation and at UTS is used to determine placement in mathematics courses. Students who score between 12 and 15 will exempt MATH 1101 (Mathematical Modeling) and may enroll in MATH 1113 (Pre-calculus).
Students who score 16 or higher will exempt MATH 1113 and may begin their University studies with MATH 2200 or MATH 2250 (Differential Calculus). No credit is given for exempted courses, but exemption of MATH 1113 or MATH 1101 may satisfy Core and/or Degree requirements.
Please note: Math Placement may only be taken once. You must be a UGA student to register for this exam.
Transfer Students with math courses that DID NOT transfer as equivalent to UGA courses are strongly recommended to take the math placement test. No credit is given for exempted courses, but exemption of MATH 1113 or MATH 1101 may satisfy core and/or degree requirements.
You should be able to find your placement test scores on Athena. To access your scores:
If you are unable to access your scores from your Athena Account, click through to the Placement Score Request form.
If you are currently taking a UGA Math class, you are not eligible to take the Math Exemption Exam. You should be aware that you cannot exempt the course via this exam if you have already enrolled in MATH 1101 or MATH 1113 at any institution. (In particular, you cannot withdraw from the course and then take the exam.)
