Usually students need to take Math, English, and a Foreign Language. Please see exemptions for placement tests on the following links:

You may take your placement exams anytime before orientation.  If you take your exams on day 1 of orientation, your advisor will have access to your test scores during advising on day 2.

Classes fill up quickly. If you want to register while at orientation, you should take the test. UGA will use the highest score for placement.

Ideally, scores are posted and ready for advisors on the second day of orientation and will post in your Athena account under Student and Registration, then Student Profile, and then Prior Education and Testing.

You can find a chart with this info here.

Placement tests cost $30.  Please schedule your exam by going to testing.uga.edu and pay online for your test. You must bring your Photo ID to your appointment.

There are NO retakes on the Math and Foreign Language placement tests.  The English placement test may be retaken once if you miss the cut off score by one point and you receive written permission from the English Department.

Yes, placement tests are administered year round. You may register online for your appointment at testing.uga.edu

When placement exams are taken throughout the year, the exams are scored and uploaded every Tuesday.  It can take up to one week after the upload for scores to appear on Athena.

It is to your best interest to take the Math placement test before meeting with an advisor (unless you have dual-enrollment credit for Pre-Cal or you have AP credit exempting you from the placement test).  Once you register for a math class, you are no longer eligible to take the Math placement test.

The math department advises all students needing math at UGA to take the Math placement exam to ensure you are placed appropriately.
